Frequently Asked Questions

What is 24u.be?
In 2002 www.24u.be, an initiative from Dries De Smet, went online for the first time in 2002. The site got a good start and gathered tens of thousands of visitors, what means no less than 800.000 hits. In 2003 these results were outnumbered largely. In 2004 records were broken again and the site found itself between 'the bigger' ones like 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring. But even then 24u.be had a central place.
24u.be is an independent organization that was transformed into a non-profit association this year. During the event the board is assisted by many extra volunteers who do their utmost to bring the news as fast as possible to your screen. For this year we co-operate again with Circuit Zolder. The marketing division of Circuit Zolder supports 24u.be on logistics and marketing areas. Besides that 24u.be is assisted by various sponsors and Belcar Teams and we express our thanks for that.

What is the difference between live-news and news items?
Live news is also called live-tracking. Thanks to this system you are offered a live report of the race on your pc-screen. Minute by minute positions, lap times, racefacts, pitstops and reparations are subsumed in a chronological table. These are all short items that make it possible to closely follow the racefacts. The news items offer you more background information like previews, reports of the start, interviews with drivers, team or race management, looking back on racefacts,. And naturally, in this section you will find racereports after a certain raceperiod.

The points distribution system
During the 24 Hours the points are distributed in a different way than during the other Belcar-races. The race duration is divided into three segments. According to their position on that moment the drivers can score points after 6, 12 en 24 hours.

Championship scoring points

The regular championship scoring points system for the 'normal' Belgian GT Championship Mediagroep Van Dyckraces has been adapted for this 24 Hours race. The race has essentially been split up into 3 'segments', by the end of which the teams can score points for the championship. After the first (6 hours) and the second (12 hours) mark there's each time half the amount of championship scoring points to be rewarded, while there will be the full amount of points awarded on crossing the finish line (24 hours). Hence the race winner will not automatically take the maximum score.

Practical example
Car x would be in 6th position after 6 hours, in 5th position after 12 hours and takes the checquered flag as a winner.
It is rewarded 27 points(3 + 4 + 20).
Car y would be in 4th position after 6 hours, in third position after 12 hours and finishing second overall.
It is rewarded 27 points (5 + 6 + 16).

Summary of championship scoring positions

after 6 hours after 12 hours after 24 hours
1st position 10 points 10 points 20 points
2nd position 8 points 8 points 16 points
3th position 6 points 6 points 12 points
4th position 5 points 5 points 10 points
5th position 4 points 4 points 8 points
6th position 3 points 3 points 6 points
7th position 2 points 2 points 4 points
8th position 1 point 1 point 2 points
