The Van Herck Team and the Mazda RX7 Last year the Mazda RX7 of the Van Herck Team made it's first appearance at the Mediagroup Van Dyck Belcar championship. The car was acquired in the USA and has encountered lots of engine problems during it's first racing season. Serious efforts were made to solve these issues and this year seems to be more prosperous for the 30 year young Werner Van Herck and his team.
The Turnhout-based garage owner has twice won the Mazda MX5 Trophy and can be confident after a seamless Spa Euro Race, as well as a flawless Brands Hatch race. A good reward for all those training hours and the time spent by the team for giving the engine the necessary reliability.
It's the engine that really makes the difference with the other GTB race cars. It is a fairly uncommon Wankel engine fitted with 2 turbos and providing 425 hp. A sequential 6 gearbox is also being added making this an excellent race car.
