24 Hours started dramatically for Russell RacingRussell Racing, the team of the Thiers brothers, could have imagined a better start to the Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder. After some 40 minutes into the first qualifying session Laurent Van Moerkerke lost it at very high speed in the Porsche 996 GT3 coming out of the Kanaalbocht. The pilot was routinely transported to the medical center at the REA chicane for a check-up, yet seemed to be OK.
In the contrary the Russell Racing car (Frank Thiers, Hans Thiers, Laurent Van Moerkerke, Guy Van Mol) was very badly damaged in the crash. The suspension (both front and rear) had broken off and presumably also damaging the engine in this heavy crash. Ill luck for Russell Racing.
