WS-Racing entering 'good old' Seat Leon Cupra

WS Racing - Seat Leon CupraWS Racing will be returning to the Mediagroep Van Dyck Belcar Original. The team of Ward Sluys decided to enter the ‘good old’ Seat Leon Cupra for the Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder. The tiny track monster has proven it’s reliability in previous editions. This year WS is hoping for a good result, owing to a solid, homogeneous driver line-up. Ward Sluys will be sharing the wheel of the Seat Leon Cupra with Dries Heyman, Johnny Vanzeebroeck and Dimitri Vanbeneden. The car will be entered in Class 3, starting with number 52.

‘For the Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder we decided to get our ‘good old’ Seat back from the stables”, Ward Sluys tells us. “Our technical crew took good care of it. We have mainly adapted the Seat for improved braking. Moreover we have taken into account the inside temperature to comfort our pilots. With these measures we should be able to get the cockpit temperature down."

Attracting ‘night owl’ Dries Heyman appears to be a good strategic move for WS-Racing, while the team also indicates to be preparing for ‘any weather circumstances’. For Heyman this will be his fourth Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder entry. In his first one he finished 13th overall in a Renault Clio. In 2004 Heyman switched to a more powerful machine. The managing director of Transporama Publishing went travelling aboard a JES Competition Porsche for two years. Most people remember Dries for his superb night stints, also explaining his nickname. Heyman finished 16th on his Porsche debut, while finishing 11th last year.

WS Racing - Seat Leon Cupra "We didn’t really outline a fixed pattern. The team will be adapting to weather and race evolutions”, Heyman tells us. “We’ll certainly be benefiting from low fuel consumption, solid track knowledge and an extremely balanced driver line-up. Ward and Johnny are true rainmasters. I’m pretty fast in the dark while Dimitri is very fast in bright dailight. A major asset of our car will be the very regular lap times. The Seat is really fast in the wet and we can also save valuable time in the pit lane. We will only be refuelling every 2 hours and we don’t have to change tires."

Until now Dries Heyman is running a very strong season: “In the VW Fun Cup 25 Hours I finished 8th on 152 teams. In the Proximus 24 Hours of Spa we maintained a G3 class lead for over 10 hours with the First Motorsport car. On the 996 GT3 Cup Porsche I was able to keep even an Aston Martin and several Dodge Vipers behind me. As a sneak preview I can also tell you that First Motorsport will be running the 24 Hours of Dubai in anuary 2007."
