Kris Wauters: "No Viper, yet a Porsche 996 Biturbo" It’s not yet entirely clear how many cars will be entered by AD-Sport at the Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder. Albert Vanierschot is contemplating the entry of two or three German-made cars. “It’s been decided we will leave the Chrysler Viper GTS-R at home. Koen and Kris Wauters will be running the Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder on a 996 Biturbo Porsche, just like the previous editions”, the ‘King of Zolder’ tells us. AD-Sport took three cars to the training day at Zolder today. The Lummen, Belgium based team was testing two 996 Biturbo Porsches and a 996 GT3 Cup Porsche.
Kris Wauters explains the team’s strategic choice: “The team is very highly experienced on the 996 Biturbo Porsches. That’s very important for such a harsh endurance race. If we meet any technical trouble we’ll be able to rely on our mechanics’ experience at any time. Yet that’s not the only reason. Koen and I have to take into account our jobs as professional musicians. The Viper V10 appears to be producing a lot more noise than the Porsche engine. I found out the hard way, experiencing some ‘ear noise’ after the Belcar Midsummer Race. That’s why we take a more conservative approach for the Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder.”
“We’ll have to accommodate again> I love driving the Viper. It’s handling a lot more easier than the Biturbo Porsche. If you drive the Porsche to the limits it easily goes into understeering. The combination with a back-side engine means you can lose quite some time in the slow corners. Yet for the Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder the Porsche is the better choice”, Kris comments, also adding that the Viper fans shouldn’t worry. After the Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder the ‘Clouseau’ duo will be returning in their red Chrysler Viper GTS-R.
