SRT leading with 4 hours to go – Surprises in the other classes

It looked a lot like GLPK Racing was going to bring home the 28th edition of the Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder rather easily… yet a gearbox problem decided otherwise. The C5-R Corvette was in it’s box for almost one hour having it’s gearbox replaced. Also ProSpeed Competition didn’t stay out of trouble. The “Pink Porsche” had driveshaft problems twice, first replacing the right one and having the left one replaced few hours later. The 996 GT3 RS Porsche fell back to ninth overall.

More teams have lost precious time in the pitlane. The CEO Racing – PSI Experience GT3 RSR Porsche experienced gearbox problems At CEO Racing we also saw the other Porsche losing positions, having a broken gearbox problem. The only AD Sport Porsche still racing, with Bruynoghe/Leest/Herman/Lémeret at the wheel, had suspension problems. They are now running in 17th overall.

WS-Racing was having a great race, putting the tiny Seat Cupra up in the top-20 positions. Yet the Sluys/Heyman/Vanzeebroeck/Van den Broeck quartet was put way back with an oil leakage and clutch troubles. It’s not yet clear if they will be able to continue the race. During the last hours we also did see retirements from the Van Herck Mazda RX-7, the #30 Ham Car Porsche, the #32 Ham Car Porsche and the #16 Mc Donald’s Porsche. We still have 28 cars racing with 4 hours to go.

Only three cars are racing still in Class 1. The SRT team has perfectly benefited from the troubles at GLPK. Cloet/Duez/Soulet/Hart have firmly taken the lead with some 12 laps ahead of the Eurotech Racing Marcos LM600. GLPK is no less than 20 laps behind. Hezemans is now in the C5-R Corvette. The Dutchman is pushing hard trying to close down the gap with Eurotech and SRT… Yet it doesn’t look like they could really move up without the two leading cars hitting trouble.

Driveshaft problems have put back ProSpeed Competition, allowing GS Motorsport to take the Class 2 lead in the BMW GTR V8. Steve Van Bellingen is now two laps behind Willie Moore in the KS Motorsport BMW M3 Silhouette. ProSpeed Competition is now third in class and 12 laps behind. NGT Racing is leading Class 3 after the Maton/Bonnaerens/Colman/Campenhoudt quartet passed the #50 First Motorsport Porsche that spent some time at the gravel trap. GS Motorsport is now third in Class 3. The BonGou-Speedlover 997 GT3 Cup Porsche is leading Class 4.
