SRT Team: Looking forward to the Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder

Merely days after a strong 8th position finish in the Proximus 24 Hours of Spa, the SRT team is looking forward to the next important meeting: the 27th Zolder 24 Hours. The team managed by Patrick Selleslagh is doing the utmost to deliver some strong result. Next to regular drivers Marc Goossens and David Hart the team is completing it’s driver line-up with Guy Verheyen and Jan Heylen.

Our target, just like the Spa event, will be to put in a very consistent effort”, explains Patrick Selleslagh. “That strategy was very rewarding at Spa and it will be our reference for Zolder. On this we’ve made some very clear agreements with all drivers.”

“Our preparation has started with a complete revision of the Ambi Pur Corvette. Both the engine and the gearbox will be new as Zolder is a very demanding course to the machinery – even more than Spa is. The car is going to be suffering in a way I’m not really looking forward to this kind of event.”

Marc Goossens, victorious twice already, will be returning to the SRT squad after his Aston Martin effort at Spa. It will be his 10th 24 Hours race at Zolder. “Our strategy is twofold. On one side we have to score valuable points for the championship. There’s points to be scored at the 6-hour, 12-hour and 24-hour mark and our strategy will be accordingly. On the other hand we’re really looking for a first SRT victory.”

SRT-newbies Jan Heylen and Guy Verheyen will get their chance to get a feel of the Corvette C5-R on thursday August 11. Guy Verheyen was already present at Spa to get a close look: “”Some track time to get used to the car is certainly no luxury. I really want to complete my assignment in the best possible way, which is to drive a very consistent race without risk or mistakes.” Guy is a regular Belcar driver scoring 5th and 8th at Zolder in 2003 and 2004.

Jan Heylen will be the second Geel-based Belgian on the car, also looking forward to the Limburg classic: “It is a unique opportunity to me driving a top cara long with someone like Marc Goossens. Moreover racing in Belgium is always a very special matter, and certainly a highly prestigious race like this one.”
