Champ Car - bad start of the weekend for Jan HeylenMajor upheaval after the first few seconds... Jan Heylen's car is at a standstill on the straight – with a left front wheel missing. During the outlap of the first free practice session everything went wrong. Some four cars were incolved ion a crash, including the car of local hero Jan Heylen. The Brit Brit Dan Clarke came into contact with Justin Wilson, who then in turn hit Heylen. The Canadian Paul Tracy was also involved, experiencing a broken front wing. This called for the first red flag of the day.
Jan Heylen, who will be competing in the 24 Hours of Zolder in a fortnight's time with AD Sport, is quite obviously highly disappointed. "The fact that Clarke has been suspended for this race doesn't really help me that much. We had come down to Zolder with high hopes, but we're definitely not throwing in the towel. I obviously won't be able to take part in the qualifying session this afternoon, but tomorrow my car will be ready. We're going to make the best of it. We have put in a great amount of effort these last few months to get the Champ Car to come to Zolder. My 'phone is glowing red hot and we're getting an enormous amount of media-attention. So let's just put this behind us, and prepare ourselves for tomorrow and the day after." VZW 24u.be - Gordon McKay on Friday 24 August 2007 at 18:24. |
