ADAC GT Masters - qualifying: results of all the Belgians summarisedMorning: This qualifying session was reserved for the 'B-drivers', but the fast time set by Haase emphasises the fact that the level in the ADAC GT Masters is extremely high. The young German lapped in 1:33,667 and went under the GT3-polerecord of Peter Kox (Belcar Midsummer Race). Second best time was recorded by Albert II von Thurn und Taxis. Van der Lof completed the Gallardo-party by bringing the ARGO car up into third spot.
The Racing For Belgium drivers came out strong during the first qualifying session. A fourth place on the grid for the first race looks good for Marchal and Sterckx. Second best Belgian team was the Daikin Racing Team. The girls clinched a spot on the sixth row of the grid, CEO Racing is on ninth and back of the grid is still the Bongou-Speedlover Porsche. One again AD Sport were not present for the qualifying session. As such the Viper will spend the remainder of the weekend on the sideline.
Afternoon: In the 'A-drivers' group rumours were doing the rounds that a 1:32" might be on the books... but the track was no longer in the perfect condition that it had been during the morning. Notwithstanding that Peter Kox still managed to squeeze out a 1:33,760 from his #6 Gallardo. Bouchut had to give in by seven thousands of a second and Menten three tenths. The Daikin-girls came out as the best Belgian representatives of this second session. They seem to be very consistent, with a place on the fifth row of the grid. The Racing For Belgium Aston was somewhat disappointing with a twelfth time. The #62 Viper of A+ Racing ended fifteenth and the CEO Racing Porsche seventeenth. The Bongou-Speedlover Porsche brought up the rear.
The session was overshadowed by an incident with the GS Motorsport Viper. The car caught fire, and a problem with the fire extinguishing installation could have had serious implications: "Several extinguishers were not working. This resulted in the car being exposed to the flames for quite a considerable time ", team manager Wolfgang Koepp told us. "We are presently inspecting the car, but first impressions tell us that the damage might luckily be just be superficial. " VZW 24u.be - Gordon McKay on Saturday 25 August 2007 at 16:23. |
