Ruben Maes and GPR unlucky in final session...Whereas Marc Duez managed to clinch the provisional pole in the penultimate qualifying session, Ruben Maes had to throw in the towel during the final session. It looked as though GPR were well in to battle it out up front. Maes went out with fresh rubber, but unfortunately the driver from West Flanders didn't go very far. A problem with one of the rear tyres forced him to park the car on the grass in the Canal bend.
At least half the cars reduced their times recorded in the previous session, and this resulted in the GPR car with number 55 being relegated to the middle of the pack: "I was fully determined to go out and attack. Mark's provisional pole motivated the entire team. As I was leaving the pitlane I noticed that there was something wrong. One of the rear wheels was loose, causing the wheel to break. No way could I return to the pits. Pity that we weren't able to become involved in the battle for pole, a place up amongst the top ranks was on the books."
During the last quarter the GPR-Porsche was relegated to seventeenth place. But then nothing is lost for Maes and co, because the race is only scheduled for Saturday and Sunday! VZW 24u.be - Gordon McKay on Thursday 6 September 2007 at 22:57. |
