FIA GT: Kumpen and Longin unfortunate in AdriaAnthony Kumpen and Bert Longin have just completed the seventh round of the FIA GT race. Their biggest competitor for the championship, the #1 Vitaphone Maserati, lost some eight laps, whereby they were no longer in the running for points. The possibility of clinching a title for Kumpen and Longin was once again apparent, but one of the drivers of the Scuderia Playteam Sarafree Maserati #11 had different ideas.
"During my stint I was hit from the back by Andrea Bertolini", Kumpen told us. "This broke the servo pump, which meant we had to carry on the race without a servo. This obviously cost us a lot of time, but we still had our sights on a finish within the points. Pretty important when you know that your biggest competitor is out of the running to score any points."
Bert Longin worked hard during the second part of the race, and had to fight with the car: "It was a really difficult race ", Longin remarked."But near the end I also became involved in an accident. Any hope of finishing within the points was out of the question. The sooner we forget all about this race the better. On the other hand its great news to hear that our Corvette is doing well in Zolder. David and Kurt have worked really well. " VZW 24u.be - Gordon McKay on Saturday 8 September 2007 at 23:22. |
