Life as it is: the commentary box - Guy Geurts Anyone visiting the 24 Hours of Zolder hears the voice of the commentator. But in fact who is Guy Geurts? Guy provides the commentary for almost every race held at Circuit Zolder. He's also present at the rally cross in Maasmechelen ... as also in Spa-Francorchamps where he's regularly a guest speaker. Full of enthusiasm he comments on the races, to the delight of the spectators. In fact next week he will be in Spa-Francorchamps for the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Guy Geurts tells us more: "It's not only the commentating of the races that takes up a fair amount of time, but at Circuit Zolder I'm also the coordinator at the media centre. It goes without saying that a great deal of preparatory work goes into it. I start working on this about one week prior to the event. The internet connections have to be in working order, sufficient volunteers have to be available to keep everything working smoothly, meetings, appointments with the organisers, etc. But luckily during the races I can count on the support of Gigi and Remco. I have full trust in both these persons and they take a fair amount of work and pressure off my shoulders."
"To be honest I grew up with the Belcar. In those days it was still known as the BBL Cup, some fifteen years ago. Over the years the collaboration grew and since then I have not missed one single edition of the 24 Hours of Zolder. I'm now also part and parcel of the 'responsible services', which implies that I have a say in the organising of all major events at Circuit Zolder for the PPS service, which stands for Press, Protocol and Speaker."
How does our race commentator see the 24 Hours of Zolder, and how does he experience the 29th edition? "We should be proud to be the first to organise a 24Hours race for the GT3 series. It might not be the biggest competitors' field, but we did succeed in bringing together both national and international top drivers. The names of those on the grid say it all. This gives us hope for the years to come."
