Gravity Racing International falls back after brake problems Following on from Vincent Radermecker having to be dragged out of the car after 1 hour and 40 minutes, everything looked rather dark for Gravity Racing International. As we had already announced before the race the sun was to play a major factor in the competition. Radermecker, physically one of the strongest drivers, was knocked out by the excessive temperature in the cockpit of his Mosler MT900. The second stint was for Bert Longin, but here again not everything ran smoothly. After an impressive relay the green and white Sporza came into the pits bellowing smoke.
Bert Longin: "For a few laps I had noticed that there was something wrong with the brakes. Lap after lap the pedal was getting longer and was losing pressure. I therefore decoded to reduce the pace, and for an instant conditions improved. I tried to go back into the attack but in the Villeneuve-chicane I went through my brakes. I had lost complete brake pressure and I can count myself lucky hat I was able to bring the car back to the pit lane. As I entered the refuelling zone the left rear disc started smoking."
The marshals didn't hesitate for a second and sprayed the smoking Mosler with their extinguishers. Once refuelled Longin headed for the Gravity-box where he parked the car.. The disc brakes and pads, both front and rear are presently being replaced. The Mosler has fallen back out of the top-fifteen, some ten laps down on the leaders. Not an easy start for the troops of Willy Plas and Loris de Sordi!
