Dehydration affects various drivers as the result of high temperaturesAs mentioned earlier the high temperatures are causing quite some problems amongst the less physically fir drivers. Even experienced and fit drivers such as Vincent Radermecker needed Jos Menten to be dragged out of their cars. Radermecker was completely drained after 1 hours and 40 minutes... and required a lengthy rest to get his breath back. One and a half hours later we saw Jos Menten being treated by the medical crew in the MPM Racing by Verbist pitbox.
The Dutchman had just completed a stint of 1 hour and 35 minutes, when he was dragged out of the Porsche 996 GT3 RS with dehydration symptoms. At the end of his stint Menten drove some fifteen laps in the lead, after Palttala had earlier in the race been holding second place.: "I had to race for one and half hours without being able to drink a single drop. For some reason or another the drink system wasn't working. I can assure you that under such temperatures it isn't easy. I had to give it my all to keep the car on the track."
"Apart from this small problem we're presently running a perfect race. Michel Pulinx has now taken over the wheel and is lapping a constant 1:41", Jos Menten told us from the massage table. VZW 24u.be - Gordon McKay on Saturday 30 August 2008 at 20:50. |
