Halfway: One lap separates KRK from WRT - 13 cars remain in the race

During the second quarter of the Zolder endurance race it was a fair amount quieter. With most of the DSC competitors having left the scene 16 cars remained on track with every intention of finishing the race. It did not take long before the leading VEKA Ferrari was obliged to throw in the towel due to engine problems. As from the seventh race hour we saw two Belgian GT3 cars, namely KRK and WRT leading the field. A situation which was not to change during the following five hours. Both cars were lapping in very similar lap times, however it was the WRT Audi that was systematically reducing the difference, bringing it to within a one lap difference. This Kumpen-Longin duel provided some great spectacle.

Just after midnight the rain appeared, but many teams initially remained on slicks until the heavens opened up. Quite remarkably under these conditions there were hardly any mistakes made by the remaining 15 cars. The biggest progression made during the previous six hours came from the ProSpeed Porsche 996. The car systematically fought its way up through the pack and with some 12 hours left it is presently ranked third (+20 laps), ahead of Level Racing and Omnilevel-Speedlover. On P6 we have the Porsche of the Thiers brothers, who are ahead of the Porsches of Belgium Racing, GHK Racing, Accent Racing Team and Skylimit Race Team.

With still 12 hours to go there are 13 cars left in the race. At approximately two thirty in the morning Vankets Motorsport decided to retire the car. Also at JR Motorsport there appears to be no hope to finish the race with their #205 BMW M3 Silhouette, and they are presently not working on the car.
