WRT wins second endurance race in 2011

W Racing Team - Audi R8 LMSFollowing their brilliant victory earlier this summer at Spa-Francorchamps, the second Belgian endurance race was also a great success for W Racing Team. After a great catch-up race in wet conditions during the night, Bert Longin, Enzo Ide, François Verbist and Xavier Maassen were able to consolidate the event and finish up on top. In this 33rd edition the Audi R8 LMS clocked up 818 laps. Notwithstanding the rather limited field after 22.00hrs on Saturday evening, spectators enjoyed a close fought battle for victory during the entire event.

ProSpeed Competition - Porsche 996 GT3 RSRIn the first instance there was the rain which allowed the WRT Audi to make up for lost ground. But there was also the incident this midday with the Mercedes SLS AMG of KRK Racing and the Skylimit Porsche which also had an influence on the final outcome in the favour of Belgian Audi Club. After the ProSpeed Competition Porsche had already experienced problems with a damaged drive shaft after a mere two hours, it became an almost impossible task for Goossens/Soulet/Loix/Palttala to make up arrears in the region of 25 laps. It should be said that they were also extremely fast in the rain during the night, with as outcome that they were able to make up 7 laps. This resulted in an excellent second place for Rudi Penders' troops.

Mad & Daring - Corvette C6.RThe first six hours also provided some great entertainment, with the participation of the Dutch brigade. For most of the DSC drivers this was their introduction to endurance racing. But what truly stood out was that they were extremely fair and competed in a controlled manner. It is therefore quite remarkable that there were neither any safety car procedures nor neutralisations via a code 60 during the entire 24 hours.

The 33rs edition was a great edition with thrilling battle on the track, but also next to the track there was loads to be enjoyed. The organisation told us that they welcomed between 35 and 40 000 visitors, but one needs to that this included the festival goers.
